The training need
As part of a series of training courses to support the commercial fleet sector in improving road safety, Transport for London (TfL) were looking to redesign their existing face-to-face training, including updates to content and learning process.
The specific development needs for the Staying Legal course included:
- Meeting the criteria for accreditation with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) as a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- Alignment with the style of TfL’s Safe Urban Driving training
- Rebranding and refreshment, with updates to content and interactive learning exercises
Our bespoke learning solution
Staying Legal is a seven-hour course and forms part of the essential training for all HGV commercial drivers. It builds knowledge and awareness of the levels of compliance required for both the driver and the operator.
The bespoke learning solution comprises eight lessons of slide decks as well as a comprehensive supporting trainer pack, packaged on a branded USB. Videos and animation provided by TfL are integrated in the relevant lessons.
The PowerPoint slide decks are clear and visually appealing, with a sound balance of imagery, animation and text to keep learners engaged, whilst providing the trainer with a well-structured framework to facilitate the training. The slides include discussion activities and a knowledge quiz at the end of each section.
The trainer pack provides an industry leading high quality training resource to enable delivery of consistent and standardised approved courses. Aimed at trainers with the appropriate industry knowledge and experience, it contains all the relevant course delivery material required by a training organisation. It includes the background and framework to the training, together with trainer notes and lesson plans and options for delivery depending on the resources available. There is also a section covering all required training administration.
Walkgrove facilitated a pilot training session with industry professionals and representatives of the target audience to evaluate the learning, and adjustments were made to produce the final material based on the feedback and input from this session.
The delivery also included an end-to-end fulfilment service with printing and compilation of trainer packs.
