The training need
TfL wanted to update previous training, created for them by Walkgrove, to encourage positive driver attitudes towards safe driving and to motivate positive, safe driving practices. The client wanted an interactive solution which represented their driving community across geography and vehicle type. There was also a need for the module to be graphically driven so drivers with lower reading ages, or with English as a second language, could access the training.
Our bespoke learning solution
Our bespoke learning solution is scenario-driven to engage learners and combine the different areas to be covered. Integrating text, graphics and audio help to illustrate the scenarios as well as provide key reflection points for the learners. The animation clips used throughout, offer regular pauses with questions and reflective messages, so learners begin to connect a dynamic experience with their theoretical understanding.
This custom e-learning takes a ‘test to teach’ approach, relying on learner engagement to push progression through the training. Learners often have good knowledge around regulations, so the opportunity here is to draw on that to make applications between what they know and their driving practice. Learners are required to use the information available to them to make educated guesses and informed decisions around what to do in the scenarios. The feedback remains open and constructive to encourage learner response and prompt meaningful reflection.
The module is naturally led by learner curiosity, offering regular opportunity for learners to hunt risks, question decisions and to evaluate actions. The supporting use of animation helps to extend key messages around safer driving practices, since it brings the material to life and integrates regular questioning with the dynamic action it captures.
