Walkgrove created a training tool for sales experts that introduced them to the benefits and potential applications of Renold’s chain products, facilitating quality conversations with future clients.
The training need
The international engineering group Renold plc is the world’s leading manufacturer of chains, gears and couplings for a range of applications. Renold decided to replace its face-to-face training with a new range of high-quality e-learning. As part of this digital learning transformation, the company commissioned Walkgrove to create an introduction for sales staff to Renold’s chain products.
Renold wanted a training tool that would give learners a grounding in chain types and applications, as well as basic knowledge about practical chain operations.
The training needed to be suitable for a very wide audience: it would primarily be offered to product and sales experts, but would also form part of the induction for all staff into the company.
Our bespoke learning solution
Walkgrove created a 90-minute bespoke e-learning module for Renold that takes learners on a journey of understanding about Renold’s chain products. The module offers essential information about chain basics, before diving deeper into the design, key strengths and applications of each type of Renold chain, their installation and maintenance.
As an introductory piece, it was important not to overwhelm learners with technical information. Walkgrove’s custom e-learning team were careful to use simple but effective presentation techniques, interspersed with clear infographics and simple animations of chain components and construction.
To build the foundation for helpful sales conversations with clients, the module also uses a scenario-based approach. Set in the context of realistic situations, learners pick the most suitable types of chain for different industrial applications, and identify the possible causes and solutions for various chain failures.
To confirm and validate knowledge gain, the module finishes with a short assessment.
To make the module accessible for Renold’s global team, the Chain e-learning is being translated into four languages: Dutch, French, German and Spanish.
