Walkgrove created two short awareness-raising courses to foster a culture of inclusion amongst John Lewis employees (Partners).
The training need
In response to growing global movements against racial inequality, gender-based oppression and other forms of discrimination, the John Lewis Partnership (JLP) wanted to develop new training on diversity and inclusion.
JLP required a course that would foster cultural and organisational change, encourage positive behaviour and challenge Partners into new ways of thinking and acting.
The training needed to build Partners’ confidence and give learners the information, tools and real life examples they need to make inclusion relatable to their professional roles.
JLP commissioned Walkgrove to design and develop two new eLearning modules covering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). The e-learning was to become mandatory for all Partners as they enter the business and then on an ongoing annual basis.
Our bespoke learning solution
Walkgrove created two bite-sized modules to help foster enthusiastic uptake of equality, diversity and inclusion standards at JLP.
The first 15-minute course focuses on legal compliance issues and explains protected characteristics that are designed to prevent discrimination. The second module of 20 minutes covers inclusive conversations, exploring the topics of unconscious bias, empathy and challenging perceptions.
The positive and empowering modules deliver key messages via an easy-to-use mobile-responsive learning interface.
The second module is presented via a series of audio impact statements and relatable scenarios that show Partners interacting in realistic daily situations. In each scenario, Partners explain a negative experience related to equality, diversity and inclusion issues and how this has impacted them. Learners explore key practical guidance relevant to the issue at hand before witnessing how the situation can be brought to a positive resolution.
Both modules are supported by knowledge checks at key points to reinforce essential learning materials, as well as test-to-teach questions and reflective
