Walkgrove created a positive, motivating and self-reflective advocacy toolkit to help peer-to-peer educators deliver sessions on abortion-related topics.
The training need
The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a youth-centred organisation that works with member associations in over 150 countries, to provide help, advice, services and supplies relating to sexual and reproductive health. IPPF’s vision is that all people are free to make choices about their sexuality and well-being.
Many IPPF member associations engage young people to deliver peer-to-peer sexual and reproductive rights and health education. An IPPF review found that abortion topics were being neglected or excluded in this education, partly due to a lack of awareness of how to proactively represent the issue.
IPPF commissioned Walkgrove to create an engaging and informative advocacy-based training toolkit on abortion for global peer educators.
Our bespoke learning solution
Walkgrove created a 90-minute bespoke, responsive e-learning course that gives youth advocates essential resources, tools and knowledge about abortion rights and related issues.
In five short modules, learners consider sexual and reproductive rights as human rights, access to abortion, the impact of abortion stigma, how to communicate and educate about abortion safely and tools for abortion advocacy.
The learning solution is mobile-friendly, youth-focused and explicitly pro-choice and rights-focused. Walkgrove applied a contemporary style to present key learning points, using short animations, video and clear infographics throughout to explain concepts and ideas.
Walkgrove’s custom e-learning team used a sensitive approach to this topic, using positive photography of women, girls and other young people to challenge stigmatising representations of abortion. It includes diverse and relevant case studies of real-life situations that are designed to resonate emotionally with a global audience.
Throughout the e-learning modules, learners are encouraged to consider how to apply the information to their own situations and create a downloadable self-reflective journal.
Walkgrove also translated the modules into Spanish and French.
