Updating IMF’s existing online, mandatory security course

Following a referral from UNHCR, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) selected Walkgrove to work with them to update their online, mandatory security course. Completion rates were already high but a recent policy update required all staff to complete the course every three years whether or not their job roles required working in high risk areas.

When IMF engaged with Walkgrove, they were impressed by our work portfolio, competitive pricing, pleasing graphics and transitions, a creative instructional approach, streamlined communication style and the ability to translate the course into other languages.

The existing course – SSAT (Safety and Security Awareness Training) took between sixty and ninety minutes to complete. The IMF planned to re-purpose the majority of the existing course content but wanted to give the program a fresher look and feel.

Walkgrove worked with IMF to design and deliver a self-paced, learner centred e-learning module which focused on the key messages. Updates included three bespoke animations and the addition of audio case studies. We reduced the seat time to 60 minutes, adding robust formative and summative assessments and included a bookmarking facility, allowing learners to leave and resume the course without losing tracking and reporting history.

Accessed from desktops, laptops, Android tablets, iPads and iPhones, the course is engaging and informational in style, combining high-quality visuals and animations, videos, interactive assessments and narration.

At the request of IMF, Walkgrove used Articulate Storyline 2 to create the content, enabling minor edits and updates to be handled in-house in the future.

The course is currently available in English, Spanish and French, but further languages may be required in the future. We also delivered files to the client to enable the production of an offline DVD version for learners.
