Premier Partnership on behalf of HS2 Limited commissioned Walkgrove to create a positive and interactive e-learning introduction to the core elements of HS2’s safety-focused culture.
The training need
In overseeing the construction of a major high-speed railway across the United Kingdom, HS2 wanted to ensure that industry-leading standards of safe, secure and healthy practices and environmental awareness is maintained across their workforce. As part of a transition from face-to-face to digital induction training, HS2 identified a health and safety gap in their onboarding process for several hundred new employees. Walkgrove was required to create a short induction module that would fill this gap and introduce learners to the HS2 Safe at Heart culture with regards to health, safety, security and the environment (HSSE). The learning audience includes employees across the whole range of roles within the company, including field-based and office staff, junior and senior positions. The introductory module had to be built within a short time-frame but also achieve the same quality and levels of learner interaction as Walkgrove’s previously developed HS2 e-learning modules.
Our bespoke e-learning solution
Walkgrove compressed its project development processes in order to deliver a varied and interactive 45-minute bespoke e-learning module that was on time and on budget. The course gave learners the ‘must-know’ facts about the Safe at Heart brand and how it would impact their work and offered links to further helpful resources. Clearly separated into discrete bite-sized sections, learning topics include company support for employees’ personal wellbeing, identification and mitigation of unique security risks and an overview of HS2’s environmental challenges.
The learning design combined media-rich, creative presentation techniques with frequent activities and a test-to-teach approach to offer learners a lively induction to HS2’s core policies on health, security, safety and the environment. Walkgrove’s learning team designed attractive line-illustrated animations to reflect the HS2 brand and enable dynamic presentation of key facts and statistics. It also incorporates talking head videos that engage learners by presenting the real-world perspectives of their colleagues on important safety and wellbeing topics.
