Walkgrove won a tough competition to build six creative bespoke e-learning modules on a diverse range of topics for staff at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH).

The training need

BSUH needed e-learning on six workplace safety and compliance topics: fire training, controlling infection, equality and diversity, safeguarding, information governance and manual handling.

Instead of opting for an ‘off the shelf’-style solution to these common training topics, BSUH commissioned bespoke e-learning solutions that would be memorable and engaging for a diverse range of staff taking the training. BSUH wanted innovative approaches that would challenge perceptions of e-learning and set a high benchmark for future digital learning courses.

Our bespoke learning solution

Walkgrove designed six one-hour e-learning courses for BSUH, each with a visually striking, distinctive and creative presentation style. Courses included a diversity of high quality imagery and animation, cartoon-style graphics and audio narration. Learning point presentation included gamification elements, gentle humour, realistic scenarios and interactive challenges.

To account for different learning preferences and avoid a ‘page-turning’ feel, each module used a self-directed navigation approach and prioritised learning through discovery and activity. Exploratory map-style menus and training screens allowed learners to uncover information in any order and skip through elements if they needed to. Essential points about each topic were consolidated using a ‘notebook’ feature that was always accessible, and an end-of-module assessment ensured that learners could demonstrate the required level of understanding.
