Walkgrove created a learning tool for Age UK that equips charity employees and volunteers to deliver helpful housing advice.

The training need

To support their launch of a programme to support older people with housing problems and to prevent homelessness amongst older people, Age UK wanted a bespoke course for staff and volunteers.

The charity wanted to enable anyone in their team to respond to common enquiries from people facing housing issues and crises, by giving them the confidence and knowledge to deliver advice and signpost clients.

Our bespoke learning solution

Walkgrove created a comprehensive, two-hour bespoke e-learning module on delivering housing advice and support for Age UK’s wide range of employees and volunteers.

The first custom e-learning module offers direction about how to establish an Age UK client’s housing situation and expectations. Three subsequent modules help learners understand how to provide support related to specific issues: homelessness, moving house and renovations and repairs.

As part of our clear and helpful course design, Walkgrove included visual learning representations, narration and audio clips, animations and video sequences to enhance memorability and learning impact. The tone and style is warm and supportive, intended to help learners feel confident as well as to reflect Age UK values.

To support learners in feeling comfortable to offer real world guidance to clients, the course includes frequent text and audio scenarios. In these realistic interactive case studies, learners are invited to respond to an older person experiencing a housing issue with the most appropriate action or advice. Feedback reinforces the key learning points about best practice.

As well as providing direction and guidance, the course helpfully signposts learners to further resources and fact sheets produced by Age UK on housing topics.

The learning course is one of a broad suite of e-learning modules developed by Walkgrove for Age UK, each with a complementary look and feel so that courses blend seamlessly together.
